Radon Testing

radon Gas

What is radon?  Radon gas is a naturally occurring byproduct of the breakdown of uranium in the soil.  Radon gas moves up through the soil to the surface and enters structures through foundation cracks, poorly sealed holes, and even through well water.   All structures, whether new or old, can be susceptible to radon gas penetration.  Radon gas is colorless and odorless, therefore can only be detected through proper testing.  Radon gas is responsible for 21,000 lung cancer deaths each year.  Get your home tested today.

Test results marked on the map above are a result of charcoal canister tests performed by DeBoer Inspection Services and evaluated by a third party lab to provide unbiased results.  Actual radon levels in the property may vary depending on many factors including time, temperature, season, barometric pressure, wind, ventilation, and other factors.  Structures tested using the EPAs protocol should not be mitigated on the basis of a single short term test as used for real estate transactions under EPA protocols. A follow-up test is necessary for mitigation decision making regardless of the initial test result.

Radon testing Protocols

Radon testing consists of the placement of a continuous monitoring charcoal collection device or an electronic radon gas monitor.  The endurance of the test is short term (48-96 hours) but long term (9 months+) testing is encouraged depending on the results of the initial test.  Testing is conducted according to EPA defined protocols such as maintaining a closed-house (windows/doors closed at all times except normal entry/exit), operating vent fans as normal, operating heat/cooling systems as normal, and the test canister/device is not disturbed at any time during the testing period.

Disturbance of the test or not following testing protocols can result in the need for a re-test.  We do not offer refunds if a test has been tampered with or testing protocols have been purposely ignored.

Add a radon test to a home inspection for only $100!  That's a 33% discount off stand alone testing.
